It isn’t every day a TV producer calls up a bassoonist and invites you to be a part of their show, so it was a real treat to be able to visit Monica in the Backyard at TVO Kids and share the bassoon with so many young viewers!
Backyard Beats is an award-winning TV series for children that introduces professional musicians and their instruments, highlights a talented junior jammer, shows how to make your own craftstrument, and then ends with a full jam session in the backyard.
I got to hang out with Monica in the backyard, introducing the bassoon and playing “how low can you go”, got to meet Olivia – a super talented young bassoonist, and DFM joined in for the jam. Monica’s craftstrument…yeah, actually plays!!!
We had a blast in the Backyard and hope that the episode will inspire a generation of young bassoonists to pick up the quirky instrument and have fun with it. Keep an eye out for Olivia, she is super talented and will be a bassoonist to watch!
